When your product is clever but your site feels clunky

Tubble sells inflatable bathtubs — yes, really. A genius product for city dwellers, digital nomads, or anyone whose bathroom lacks a built-in spa. Their brand is fun, functional, and just weird enough to spark curiosity.

But their website? Less curiosity, more confusion.

They had outgrown their old WooCommerce setup, which was pieced together from multiple design attempts, internal fixes, and leftover code from earlier developers. Product pages didn’t line up. Templates weren’t flexible. And backend edits often felt like disarming a bomb.

That’s where we came in — to reset everything without losing the charm.

“We’ve had three people touch this site, and none of them finished it.”

The client came to us with a clear message:

“We have wireframes, a design doc, and strong brand identity. But the site isn’t where it needs to be. We need structure, performance, and consistency — without rebuilding from zero.”

Translation: they didn’t want another agency overpromising design fireworks. They needed someone to step in, clean up the mess, and launch a working, future-proof WooCommerce store — without starting a six-month digital therapy session.

Tubble’s team had wireframes. They had branding. They had real product photos. What they lacked was:

  • A homepage that told a product story, not just threw items at visitors
  • Product pages that could flex to support videos, spec callouts, and secondary CTAs
  • A checkout flow that worked on mobile without breaking
  • A backend system that didn’t require weekly developer intervention
  • The ability to scale: new products, new categories, maybe even new markets

So we rolled up our sleeves and got to work.

Our solution: clean structure, lean code, custom WooCommerce templates

We didn’t rebuild the whole thing — we rebuilt the parts that mattered. With a custom WordPress and WooCommerce setup, we delivered exactly what the brand needed: clarity, consistency, and a site that finally felt like it matched the product.

A homepage that finally tells a story

The original homepage tried to do too much. We gave it focus. The new homepage guides users through the product’s benefits, trust signals, and categories in a logical scroll — not a guessing game. No bloat, no unnecessary animations.

We added:

  • A strong hero section with a single CTA
  • Short visual explanation of the product’s value
  • Category blocks styled for quick shopping
  • Embedded Trustpilot widget (no paid upgrade, no extra plugin bloat)
  • Mobile-optimized image sizes and retina support
Product pages built to sell

Each product now lives in a custom-built WooCommerce template that supports:

  • Flexible layouts for different product types
  • Product videos (added with a lightweight plugin, not a builder hack)
  • Optional icons or checklist blocks next to the cart button
  • Secondary CTAs (for up-selling accessories or showing related guides)
  • Accordion FAQs and shipping details that don’t make users scroll for days

More importantly: everything loads fast, scales well, and looks consistent — whether you’re on a MacBook or a five-year-old Android.

Custom WooCommerce setup — no bloated page builders

This site was built on custom WordPress and WooCommerce, without page builders like Elementor or Oxygen. We coded reusable templates from scratch, giving Tubble full control over:

  • Homepage layout
  • Product card designs
  • Checkout styling
  • Icons and callouts for USPs
  • Footer modules (newsletter, policy links, language switcher)

This means no plugin hell, no visual editor lag, and no “mystery spacing” that takes hours to fix. Just clean, maintainable code with room to grow.

Multilingual-ready (but not forced)

The site is prepped for multilingual rollout — without forcing it at launch. We made sure all content is structured for easy translation, including:

  • Product pages
  • Category metadata
  • Static content in menus and buttons
  • Legal pages and checkout labels

When the client is ready to go multi-region, they won’t need to retrofit. It’s all set up and waiting.

Smart integrations, no plugin soup

We don’t stuff sites with plugins. We use what’s needed, nothing more.

Included in this project:

  • WooCommerce core, with minimal extensions
  • Mollie payment integration, fully styled
  • Trustpilot free widget, embedded and styled manually
  • Product video plugin, client-supplied license
  • Custom form styling for contact and service pages

Everything was tested across major browsers and devices — no surprises after launch.

Tech stack we used
  • CMS: Custom WordPress
  • eCommerce: WooCommerce
  • Frontend: Custom HTML, CSS, JS — no builders
  • Backend: Custom PHP, WooCommerce hooks, multilingual prep
  • Hosting: VPS (3GB RAM, SSD, daily backups, SSL)
  • Image handling: Retina-ready with lazy loading
  • Search: WooCommerce-native with optional AJAX booster
Development process

We worked in tight feedback loops with the Tubble team. They were hands-on, and so were we.

How we handled it:

  • Weekly check-ins
  • Bugherd for front-end QA
  • Mid-sprint demos to align with the SEO consultant
  • Extra hours logged (transparently) for unexpected WooCommerce limitations
  • Final polish round for microcopy, hover effects, mobile spacing

This wasn’t a hands-off project — it was a partnership. The result? We hit the design brief, smoothed the user flow, and helped the client go live with confidence.

Final result: a fun product with a solid platform

The new Tubble site reflects the brand’s identity: quirky, smart, and clean. But more importantly, it functions.

  • Customers can browse, add to cart, and check out without friction
  • The client can update products, swap images, or adjust text without dev help
  • Mobile shoppers don’t hit dead ends or broken layouts
  • And the backend isn’t a minefield anymore

It’s built to sell, built to last — and ready for whatever comes next (new products, blog, language support).
