Introduction

Mission EineWelt had a mission — but their website didn’t reflect it. Outdated layouts, scattered navigation, and inconsistent structure were standing in the way of clarity. For an organization dealing with global partnerships, education, and social justice, the site didn’t do the work it needed to.

They reached out (via our partner KUBE Studio) for a redesign that didn’t just look better — it had to function better, too.

So, we rolled up our sleeves and got to work on a smart, scalable solution. The result? A streamlined UX foundation that makes it easier to share stories, highlight projects, and keep content under control.

Need a design system that actually works across hundreds of pages? This is how we do it.

The challenge

Mission EineWelt is the global partnership center of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria. Their work spans continents, cultures, and causes. But their old website? Let’s just say it struggled to keep up.

Here’s what we were up against:

  • Too much content, too little clarity: Decades of articles, events, and program pages made the structure bloated and hard to navigate.
  • No clear visual hierarchy: Important areas of the site were buried. Visitors couldn’t find what mattered.
  • Brand? Barely there. The visual identity felt outdated and wasn’t applied consistently — despite having solid CI guidelines.
  • No templates: Each page was like a snowflake — which might sound nice, but it’s a nightmare for editors and developers alike.
  • Content chaos: News, events, donation projects, jobs, partnerships — all scattered, with no coherent UX structure.

The Mission EineWelt team needed a clean, consistent foundation they could grow on. One that worked across multiple content types and stayed true to their brand.

The story

KUBE Studio reached out and said: “We’ve got a client with big ideas and a website stuck in the past. You up for it?”

Of course we were. We’ve teamed up with KUBE on complex digital projects before, and we both know the drill: build it smart, scalable, and beautifully on-brand.

The Mission EineWelt team gave us full access to their corporate identity (fonts, logo, colors — even the quirky purple). They were open to bold design moves, including a dark theme, a new mega menu concept, and a rethinking of page layouts.

The goal? Design just three key screens that could become the blueprint for the rest:

  1. Homepage: Clear value, accessible info, and a strong editorial feel
  2. “Partner churches in Africa” page: Longform content with sticky sidebar and modular sections
  3. Event detail page: A flexible template to handle anything from workshops to church conferences

We kicked things off with brand exploration and wireframes, then iterated on full UI designs — desktop and mobile — with regular feedback rounds from both KUBE and the client team.

Our solution

Let’s keep it practical — here’s how we made it work:

1. A homepage with real hierarchy

We stripped out the clutter and focused on four things:

  • Who Mission EineWelt is and what they do
  • Editorial-style news and press highlights
  • Featured campaigns and donations
  • Clear, visual CTAs to learn, give, or get involved

We also included a subtle “urgent alert” bar above the menu for time-sensitive announcements.

2. Smart templates, fewer headaches

We didn’t just “design three pages.” We built modular, reusable templates:

  • Repeatable content sections for longform storytelling
  • Sidebar variants for events and partner programs
  • Sticky navigation blocks to help with deep content
  • Typography and spacing guides that scale

This keeps content creation smooth and the look consistent — even for editors who aren’t designers.

3. A mega menu that doesn’t suck

We created a custom mega menu structure to surface high-traffic sections and avoid overwhelming users. It includes:

  • Visual grouping by content type
  • “Call-to-action” slots
  • Clean grid layout on desktop
  • Easy-to-use version for mobile

4. Brand, but better

The purple? We used it — boldly. We also brought in iconography, modular cards, and typography that reflects their CI, while still feeling fresh.

Final results

The finished UX design package (delivered in Adobe XD) gave KUBE’s development team everything they needed to roll out a consistent, scalable site structure.

  • A homepage that guides users — not overwhelms them
  • Templates that reduce design debt and dev effort
  • Mobile-ready layouts for every key screen
  • A modular design system built for growth

Since the launch, the Mission EineWelt site has been easier to navigate, easier to update — and most importantly, easier to understand.
