Introduction

When Dotado approached us, they weren’t looking for a pretty website. They needed clarity. Structure. And a digital home that didn’t confuse visitors but guided them—with confidence—to the right service. Because when you’re helping gifted kids and adults navigate complex challenges, the last thing you want is a chaotic website.

Dotado specializes in giftedness coaching—working with parents, teachers, and highly intelligent (often overwhelmed) adults. Their previous site? Let’s just say it didn’t live up to their IQ standards.

They needed a custom website for giftedness coaching that could:

  • clearly present their services
  • explain what giftedness coaching is (without sounding clinical)
  • and make booking and contact easy, without intimidating the visitor.

That’s where we came in.

Understanding the challenge

Dotado supports parents, educators, and professionals in navigating the often complex journey of giftedness. But their original website was doing them a disservice: outdated visuals, confusing structure, and unclear messaging meant potential clients couldn’t figure out what Dotado actually did—let alone why they should care.

Here’s what we were up against:

  • Low clarity: Visitors didn’t immediately understand what Dotado offered. The services were there, but buried under vague text and awkward navigation.
  • Fragmented structure: The site lacked hierarchy. Pages felt like puzzle pieces from different boxes.
  • Zero conversion focus: No clear CTAs, no nudges toward contact or consultation. No sense of momentum for the user.

In other words, Dotado had the expertise—but their site wasn’t showing it. And worse, it was holding back the business.

So: clarity, structure, action.

Our approach

We started with what Dotado already had: documents, PDFs, and outlines full of ideas and structure suggestions. Unlike many clients, Dotado came prepared with serious thought behind their user groups and page flow. That was gold.

Instead of rethinking everything, we did three things:

1. Structured their thinking
We created a site architecture that split visitors clearly into:

  • Ouders van (vermoedelijk) hoogbegaafde kinderen
  • Professionals in het onderwijs
  • Hoogbegaafde volwassenen
  • Instanties en beleidsmakers

2. Clarified their core messages
The content needed to feel like it came from real people who get it. So we worked directly with Dotado to rework their text input into UX-friendly copy — still their tone, just sharper, leaner, and built for scannability.

3. Designed for emotional clarity
Being gifted can feel like a gift — or a struggle. We avoided overly playful or corporate visuals, and instead focused on calm, confident design with:

  • Soft but grounded colors
  • Real photography where possible
  • Clear visual hierarchy, making the content the hero
Wireframes, design, and collaboration

This was a highly collaborative project.

We didn’t just go from briefing to final. We built:

  • Initial wireframes per audience type
  • A homepage concept that balanced overview and direction
  • Modular content blocks to scale new service pages later
  • A navigation structure that allows expansion (they’re growing)

After presenting the first concept, we iterated through:

  • Navigation flow adjustments (the info for “instanties” was moved)
  • Homepage hero rewording to hit harder
  • Footer restructuring for better accessibility
  • CTA hierarchy adjustments across pages

And Dotado gave feedback that actually helped — quick, clear, and thoughtful. So we were able to move fast.

Key features

Dotado didn’t want a huge site. But they wanted a useful one.

We included:

  • Role-based navigation for parents, adults, teachers
  • Dedicated page types with their own tone and layout structure
  • Team introduction section to show expertise, without ego
  • Integrated contact and intake form built in WordPress
  • Scalable structure for additional services later

All of this is editable from their custom WordPress backend — built lean, so no bloat and no unnecessary plugins.

Hosting, maintenance, and peace of mind

The partnership didn’t stop at delivery. We also:

  • Host the website securely on our own infrastructure
  • Keep it updated weekly through our SLA package
  • Act as technical support and content support when needed

It’s exactly what Dotado wanted: no technical distractions. Just a site that works and grows with them.

The tech stack

We kept it clean and scalable.

Front-end:

  • HTML5, SCSS, JS, jQuery
  • Custom components, accessible from the backend

CMS:
WordPress (custom theme, no page builders)

Hosting & maintenance:

  • VPS hosting on our secure server
  • Weekly updates
  • SLA agreement with proactive monitoring
Results

So, what’s the payoff?

  • Dotado now has a website that’s structured around its real audience — not generic “about us” pages
  • Parents find the right info, faster
  • Educators know where to go
  • The Dotado team can update the site without emailing us (but they still do when it matters)

They also get:

  • Proactive support
  • Hosting included
  • Peace of mind that their platform is in good hands

And we? We gained a long-term partner who cares as much about clarity as we do.

Final thoughts

Designing for gifted education isn’t about making something flashy. It’s about clarity, trust, and delivering exactly what the user needs, when they need it.

Dotado had a clear mission. We just made sure the site finally reflected that.
